Abstract
Ibn al‐Bannāʾ al‐Marrākushī contributed in the development of astronomy and
mathematics in the Islamic West during the 13th / 14th centuries.
His interest in this science is attributed to the influence of his teachers and his
knowledge of the classical astronomical tradition on the one hand, and then the
important status given to astrology by the caliphs and sultans on the other hand.
However, his point of view on astrology was oscillating between acknowledging the
objectivity of this science and its laws and sometimes rejecting it and denying it by
responding to the astrologers and their occasional rush.
