Abstract

Punishment represents an essential element of the educational process for Muslim scholars in the medieval era, but the methods of punishing and disciplining learners varied and their degrees varied according to the amount of the error committed, and we can distinguish two basic types of punishment: verbal and physical. The number and manner of blows are determined according to the crime committed, and the teacher does not exceed the maximum ten blows in hitting the student, and sometimes the punishment may lead the student to death! If the punishment exceeded its limits.

For the purpose of controlling such educational practices, scholars worked to clarify their manner, time and method. The jurists cited in their fatwas manifestations of such practices, and explained their legal ruling, and educators spoke about their merits, time, and time for them to be obligatory, and this is what the writings of scholars of the Islamic world in general and Morocco in particular abound with.

What are the basics of the punitive process in the educational curriculum in the Islamic Maghreb? What are the means, steps and methods used in implementing the punitive act? Is punishment an effective means of discipline?
