Abstract

The apparent significance of the term “reasons of revelation” refers to the interaction of the text with reality, causing most modernists to fall into the fallacy that the reasons of revelation indicate that the verse is associated with the fact or event and the cause is associated with its effect. From this point of view, they considered it important evidence of the historicity of the Koran, but Mohammed Arkoun went to the contrary and considered the reasons for the revelation an obstacle to the historicity of the Koran, because they are small stories that are insufficient and were not conveyed honestly, in addition to the predominance of the style of legend over them.He concluded that it suggests a false historicity other than the true historicity of the Koran, which he wanted to demonstrate by tracing the historical formation of the Koran and linking it to the language of its people.
