Abstract
Through this study, we aim to dig and research the issue of the Algerian educated elite during the colonial period, using both the historical method ; and his various policies, foremost of which are the political, cultural, and educational ones, and this contradicts, on the other hand, the second position of researchers interested in Algerian history; Those who emphasize the fact that French occupation on the eve of its occupation of Algeria found a civilized society and cultural structures that match or exceed those in France at the time. In the end, the study concluded that the Algerian society experienced the elitist phenomenon before the French occupation, but with different names and characteristics from its counterpart in Western societies. The educational policy of the French occupations also contributed to the production of two types of educated elites. The first is French with Western culture and ideology; The second is reformism, which was formed as a reaction to this policy on the part of the Algerians, imbued with Arab Islamic principles and values.
