Phonetic changes in foreign words in the Dictionary of Lisan Al-Arab by Ibn Manzur. The animal field as a case study

Abstract

          The aim of this research is the observation of extraneous words that denote animals in Lisan Al-Arab by Ibn Manzoor, and to study the phonemic changes. Also, we adopted the descriptive approach for achieving this goal. The result is the predominance of transposition over the rest of patterns of phonemic changes. The borrowing of extraneous words from the Persian language compared to other languages. The changes of phonetic structure and the development of semantics which contributed to enriching the vocabulary of the Arabic dictionary.
