The experience of local development in Algeria - a case study of the municipality of Ain Abid during the period 2016-2020

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the experience of local development in Algeria, since the latter
represents the preoccupation of all economic policy makers in Algeria, especially after Algeria's move
towards a policy of decentralization in management and giving greater freedom to local administration and
local elected officials in running the affairs of the local community. To the experience of Ain Obeid
municipality in achieving local development during the period 2016-2020.
The study found a set of results, the most important of which is that despite the financial allocations directed
to local development, it did not live up to the required level that improves the standard of living for members
of society, and all financial allocations are directed towards providing basic services to members of society
only and neglecting the economic aspect, as the study found The main obstacles are the lack of financial
resources and the absence of popular participation..
