Abstract

The murals often depict people's cultural and civilizational heritage. They carry a cultural message and aesthetic one. The murals are an act of documentation that recalls past and present events and contemplates the future. The murals of Haji Ahmed Bey's palace are among the most important works of art that document a distinct time in the history of the Arab and Islamic region. These murals painted by Hajj Youssef on the inner walls of the Bey palace between 1830 and 1835 are an embodiment of the latter's journey to the holy places, during which he visited a group of cities. From this point of view, we seek through this study to research the meanings and cultural connotations carried by one of the murals of the Museum of Hajj Ahmed Bay Palace; through a semiotic and historical study to analysis the internal formations of the image to know the extent of their representation for Islamic civilization.
