Abstract

In his book entitled « Authority in Islam » part one Dr Abdeldjawad addresses a great deal of
approaches whether relative to the holy Koran, Hadith, history, or the worthy ancestors’ ideological
and doctrinal system, causing considerable controversy and critics.
The author’s approach consists in distinguishing between two categories of texts: mandatory pure
texts (the Holy Koran and Hadith at the time of revelation) and later texts (doctrinal texts, such as:
Unanimous Resolution and Juristic Reasoning) which gained a mandatory authority, competing with
the pure texts and becoming the groundwork of the worthy ancestors’ ideology.
We explained how it is inevitable in many cases and that is unworthy to consider it as decreasing
the permission scope, besides it is unworthy to consider it as a mandatory text only by submitting it to
the said scope, according to the author’s assertion.
Furthermore, we disagree with the author on the fact that “No mandatory but through a text”, for it
is not a steady rule. We should rather distinguish between the presumptive and cogent argumentations
which he qualifies as “non- textual”
